Edie Sawitsky passed away in her home on August 3, 2024, in the arms of her beloved husband, Michael Keane, her brother Kitt Sawitsky, her granddaughter Anna Keane, and life-long high school friend, Susan Tiffen. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Karin Maria Keane, grandson Herman Keane Waagaard, sister-in-law Heather Sawitsky, nephews Aaron Sawitsky (Denice), Luke Sawitsky, sister-in-law Margaret Wagner, niece Katherine Hansen (Stephen), nephews, Thomas Wagner (Denise), Kevin Wagner (Doris), and Gerald Wagner, many cousins and her dear local friends Cinda Morse and Celia Berks. Edie, born in New York City, grew up in Roslyn, Long Island, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Syracuse University, and a graduate degree in business from Baruch College. In her first career, she taught art to students at The Dalton School in Manhattan. After earning her graduate business degree, she worked at Manufacturers Hanover Trust in NYC, at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, and at Shearson Lehman American Express and Charles Schwab Capital Markets in NYC. In 2006, Edie and Michael pulled up stakes from NY/NJ and found a home in North Bennington, Vermont. Since that time, both of them have served their community and the State of Vermont. Edie served on the board of the Vermont Arts Council, was President of the Board of the Bennington Museum, President of the Better Bennington Corporation, and member of the Center for Restorative Justice. Edie enjoyed life here. She met interesting people who became friends, supported local causes. Edie always loved her dogs, especially her Irish Terriers, Kaylee and Kagan. Funeral arrangements will be private. A memorial gathering of family and friends in Edie’s honor will take place in mid-September.
