Mrs. Edith M. LeRay, 93, widow of Herman "Herm" M. LeRay, a resident of Stark St. in Bennington, VT died Friday July 13, 2018 at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY following a brief illness.
She was born in Bennington, VT June 24, 1925. She was the daughter of the late William O. and Elizabeth (Bourgeois) Fonteneau. Edith received her education at Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of Bennington High School class of 1944.
Mr. and Mrs. LeRay were married at Sacred Heart Church on May 25, 1946.
In earlier years Mrs. LeRay was employed at Catamount Manufacturing, Bennington College and Grants Department Store. She later was employed as executive secretary to Fred Parker, President of Vermont National Bank, until her retirement in 1987.
Mrs. LeRay was a devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of St. Anne's Society and held the office of Treasurer. She was a member of the Double SS Home Extension Group and was a Red Cross volunteer as a Gray Lady at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary.
Survivors include five sons, Alan C. LeRay, John W. LeRay and his wife Tara and Paul R. LeRay all of Bennington, Timothy M. LeRay of Charleston, S.C. and Peter J. LeRay of Philadelphia, PA. Eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. LeRay was pre-deceased by two brothers, Richard A. Fonteneau and Bertram Fonteneau and a daughter in law, Sharon LeRay.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday July 20, at 10:30 am with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
The burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday July 19, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
