Earl J. Gerity, Jr., 82 a life-long resident of Bennington passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a brief illness, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Bennington on May 2, 1936, he was the son of the late Earl and Eva (Waters) Gerity.
Earl received his education in the Bennington Schools; following High School Earl enlisted in the U.S. Army.
Earl married Debbie Tobin in Bennington in 1967; Debbie passed away in 2001.
Earl was a well-know bartender, having worked over the years at the VFW, Eagles Club, Bennington Club and Saratoga Race Track. He was a bartender at Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, VT from the day the track opened, until the day it closed. In Earl's later years, until the time of his retirement, Earl was employed as a Security Guard at the Eveready/Union Carbide Plant in Bennington, VT.
Earl was an avid fan of both Boston Read Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed watching both college and professional football and basketball.
Survivors include a daughter, Heather Gerity of Tennessee; one brother, Douglas Gerity and his wife Margaret of Bennington, two sister-in-law's, Ramona Gerity of Bennington, Mary Ann Gerity of Texas, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Earl was predeceased by three brothers; Frank, Robert and Donald Gerity.
Family and friends are invited to the Military graveside committal services for Earl which will be held at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington on October 20, 2018 at 11:00 am.
