Earl W. Bump Sr. 75, a resident of Gage Street in Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully at his home on August 19th, 2023, following a long illness. Born on October 28th, 1947 in Bennington, Vermont. He was the son of the late Lorenzo Bump and Catherine Campney. He was raised in Bennington and received his early education in the Bennington schools. He later attended Bennington High School and was among the first class to graduate from the newly built Mount Anthony Union High School. After graduation, Earl enlisted in the United States Navy and Served for nearly two years during the Vietnam War Era. During that time, on December 14th, 1968, Earl married the former June F. Hanlon, in Newport News, Virginia. This year, they would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Upon returning to Bennington, Earl got a job working for Union Carbide, which changed hands a few times during his career. (Eveready and Energizer) Altogether, Earl worked at the factory in Bennington for nearly 35 years. Earl was a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge #567, and the Manchester, Vermont Eagles Aerie #2551. Earl enjoyed; fishing, bowling, NASCAR, and coaching football at the MAYAA and Middle School levels. He was a dedicated member of the MAUHS Booster Club and was an avid supporter of all the MAUHS sports teams. Earl liked to spend his free time sitting on his front porch. Earl is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years June Bump. Their children; Carol Sherwood (Mike) and Earl Bump Jr. (Nikki). Six Grandchildren; Shannon, Erica, Megan, Jason, Elizabeth, and Carl. 3 Great Grandchildren; Kendell, R.J., and Kailyn. His Brothers; Craig Bump, David Bump, Bruce Bump (Nicky), Scott Bump (April), and Chris Bump. A sister; Denise Bourgeois. Earl is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Earl is predeceased by his parents. His mother and father-in-law; Michael and Edith Hanlon. A sister; Debbie Bump. A sister-in-law; Dorothy “Dot” Bump. A brother and sister-in-law; Edmund Taft Sr. and Ginny Mae Taft. Calling hours for Earl will be held from 3pm till 5pm on Wednesday August 23rd, 2023 at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. Immediately following the conclusion of calling hours at 5pm, there will be a memorial service for Earl. The family would like to thank VNA and Hospice of the Southwest Region, Russ and Sarah with the intensive care unit at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, and Elisha Burgess for all of the Excellent care they provided for Earl of the past year.
