Dorothy A. Powers, 83, a resident of Trailer Park Road in Shaftsbury, VT died Friday August 12, 2016 at her residence following a long illness.
She was born in Sunderland, VT June 18, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Giles and Ida (Sharkey) Bacon. Dorothy received her education in Manchester.
In earlier years Dorothy was employed at the Polygraphic Company for eighteen years and later worked with the Headstart Program. Since 1984 she had been employed by Sunrise at the S.R.S. office in Bennington.
Her hobbies and interests included gardening and knitting. Her home and family were her main interests.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy "Dee Dee" Allen of North Bennington and Laurie Crandall of Searsburg, VT; two sons, Fred Powers of Williston, VT and John Powers of Shaftsbury; nineteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Doyle of Florence, MA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by two sons, William and Arthur Rodd and two daughters, Betty Myers and Barbara Brunelle and two brothers Clifford and Stuart Bacon.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday August 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral on Thursday August 18, at 1:00 p.m.
The burial will follow in the family lot in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland, VT.
