Donald F. Shea M.D.

Donald Francis Shea Jr. MD. 72, passed away on June 11, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, N.Y. after a lengthy illness. A native of Bennington, he attended Saint Francis de Sales Academy, followed by Mount Anthony Union High School, graduating in 1969. He then went onto the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate years followed by the University of Vermont College of Medicine where he received his medical degree in 1977. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. before returning to Bennington. He practiced medicine in Bennington, as an internist for many years in the same office on South St. with his father, Donald Shea, Sr. MD and his uncle James Seward Shea, MD before retiring. He will be remembered for his intelligence, commitment to his patients, love of theatre as well as his quick humor and Irish tenor. He is survived by brother, Stephen Shea, MD, Los Angeles, sister, Sandra Shea, Bennington, and his younger brother Scott (Allison), Fort Myers, Florida, as well as his three sons, Greg Shea (Melissa), Matthew Shea (Kristen) and David Shea (Jenielle) and his six grandchildren, Jordan, Gavin, Hunter, Adelaide, Joseph, and Colin.
