Donald Russell Sr. a resident of Bennington, VT, passed away peacefully on March 23rd, 2024 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Cambridge, New York on August 31st, 1929. He was the son of the late Frederick Alfonzo and Margaret Ella (Young) Russell. He received his education in Buskirk, North Hoosick and Hoosick Falls. Don served in the United States Army from 1947 - 1950. He worked for several different companies including Hart Construction in Williamstown, Delurey's in Hoosick Falls and Joe Granner Construction. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, camping and racing. Survivors include his children, Nancy Coon, Bobbie Osgood, Lorrie Calef, Donnie Russell Jr., Oliff Russell, Tina McKune, Ida Russell and Mary Hunt. A stepson, Steven Woodard, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren;and a special friend; Rebecca Greene. Don was predeceased by his longterm companion; Amelia Eaton. A daughter Sherry Russell. His grandchildren; Kayla George, Tammy Russell, John Coon Jr., Tammy Lee Coon, and Tyler Russell. Two great grandchildren; Vinny Mangano and Ronald George. A sister; Elizabeth Colter As well as, two half brothers; Ellis and Earl Russell. Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service at 3pm on April 10th, 2024 at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. Friends and relatives are invited to begin arriving at 2:30pm until the time of the service. The burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal, VT immediately following the memorial service. If friends desire contributions in memory of Donald may be made directly to the Vermont Diabetes Association.
