Donald James Estes

Donald James Estes of Bennington, VT, passed away on June 2, 2024, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. Donald was born in Bennington on May 31, 1935, the son of Loverne and Yvonne (Descoteau) Estes. He received his education in Bennington schools. He married Gertrude Elizabeth Coyne on January 9, 1954, in Bennington. Gertrude passed away January 10, 2015. Donald was a printer, working for the Star Press in Holyoke, MA and the Pennysaver in Bennington where he retired from after 25 years of service. Donald and Gertrude spent over 40 years raising, training and showing their German Shepherds and owned Windcrest Kennels. Donald was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, He and Gertrude would winter in Fort Myers, Florida. Donald is survived by his children; Deborah (Peter) Knapp of North Bennington, VT, Mark (Lori) Estes of Sarasota, FL, Jeff (Paz) Estes of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Kevin Estes of Bennington, VT. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Gertrude, Donald was also predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Estes and a grandson, Joshua Estes. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
