CASTLETON- Diane Peterson Proulx, 77, a former resident of Bennington and current resident of Castleton, Vermont passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024 at her residence, with her family by her side. She was born in Bennington, VT on August 7th, 1946 to the late Albert E. and Anna (Tollisen) Peterson. Diane grew up in Bennington and attended local schools. She graduated from Bennington High School in the class of 1964. She was employed at the Paradise Restaurant in her earlier years before becoming a lab assistant at Union Carbide where she remained for 38 years. She married her first husband, Ernest Thompson in 1965. Together they had one son, Shane. Diane married her second husband, the love of her life, Michael Proulx in November 1977. They were married for 27 years when he passed away on July 1st 2004. Diane absolutely loved shopping and collecting jewelry. She was an incredible cook and really enjoyed making candy, her specialty being chocolate truffles. Diane was a very social person. The most important thing in her life was her family. She loved them dearly. Diane is survived by her son, Shane (Jodi) Thompson, of Bomoseen, VT. She has one grandchild, Alyssa Thompson, of Bomoseen, VT. Her brother, Arthur Peterson, of Dalton, MA, a niece, Laura Peterson, Chicago, IL, a nephew, Russell (Leah) Peterson, of Fairport, NY and a great-nephew, Landon Peterson, of Fairport, NY. Diane is also survived by other nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to call at the Mahar Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201 from 11:00am-1:00pm on February 19th, 2024. A service will be held at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Diane will be buried in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery.
