Deborah Lee Ernst, 66, a resident of Readsboro, Vermont, passed away peacefully at her home on December 27th, 2023 following a long illness. Born on September 8th, 1957, in Bennington, Vermont, she was the daughter of Theodore Hoyt and Margaret Pilling. Debbie was raised in Bennington and attended Mount Anthony Union High School, graduating with the class of 1975. She later attended Southern Vermont College and graduated summa cum laude with her bachelor's degree in psychology. Following her graduation, she moved to Florida and began a career as a Clinical Medical Social Worker for a hospice service. Before moving to Florida, she married her first husband, Ron Oakes. Together, they had two sons who both tragically passed away. They later separated but remained friends. She later returned to Vermont, settling in Readsboro. Debbie then married her second husband, Rick Ernst of Wisconsin. They were married for several years but later separated. Debbie enjoyed nature and spending time with friends and family. She had a beautiful, kind-hearted soul and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her father, Theodore Hoyt. Her brothers, Steve and Kevin Hoyt. Her sister, Ellen Vaine. Ellen's husband, Howard Vaine. Her nieces: Payton and Jayde Hoyt. Her nephews Dylan Hoyt, Skyler Hoyt, Brian Vaine, and Kolby Hoyt. As well as, many extended family members and friends. Predeceased relatives include her sons; Eric Stephen Oakes and Ronald David Oakes Jr. Her Mother, Margaret. As well as her nephew, Jason Vaine. Following Debbie's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. The family plans to have a celebration of life that they will announce at a later date.
