> David J. Hurley, 84, a resident of Hurley Lane, Bennington, died Thursday at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
> Born at the family home on Beech Street in Bennington on May 6, 1931, he was the 3rd son of six children born to Fred J. and Eva (Sequin) Sawyer Hurley. Dave received his early education at St. Francis de Sales Academy and Bennington High School and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he completed his education. While serving during the Korean War Dave was stationed in Yokohama, Japan and later in Wonju, Korea.
> Following his discharge Dave returned to Bennington where he married his life long friend, Lois Reagan on June 11, 1955 at St. Francis de Sales Church. Lois died May 13, 2014.
> An auto mechanic for most of his life, he also worked as a farmer, once owned a Real Estate Agency and managed several small businesses.
> Dave was Life Member, Manager and Past Post Commander of VFW Post 1332 in Bennington. He also belonged to AARP, American Legion Post 13, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1861, all of Bennington. He was a former member of past Foreman of the Bennington Rural Fire Department, Beech Street station.
> Dave is survived by two children, Lynda (Shawn) Gift of Olympia, WA and Michael (Stephanie) Hurley of Bennington; 4 grandchildren; 1 great- granddaughter, two brothers, Louis F. Hurley and Raymond R. Hurley.
> In addition to his wife Dave was predeceased by a son, David J. Hurley II and by five siblings, Frederick Hurley Jr., Alma Shattuck, Mary Davis, Donald and James Hurley.
> Graveside services with military honors will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.
> At Dave's request there will be no calling hours.
