David H. Humphrey, 73, of Bennington, VT, died February 10, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA, December 27, 1948, and grew up in Westfield, MA. The son of the late Eleanor (Goodniss) Wright and stepson of the late Arthur Wright, David graduated from Westfield State College and enjoyed a lifelong career in journalism.
David was a reporter and editor at The Union News, Morning News and Sunday Republican in Springfield, MA; and an editor at The Fort Lauderdale News/Sun Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, FL, The Herald News in Fall River, MA, and The Standard-Times in New Bedford, MA. He won numerous awards for his work and guided many others in their own award-winning work.
A lover of education, David taught journalism at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and Westfield State College, and community journalism in New Bedford, among other endeavors.
He was passionate about life, with a special love of fresh-water fishing, sports, cooking, movies, reading, and sharing memories with his many loving friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Humphrey of Bennington, and children, Jason Humphrey (Kim) of Westford, MA, Caitlin Moniz (Ryan) of Dartmouth, MA, Brendan Radigan (Kim) of Portland, ME, Evan Radigan (Tracy) of Brooklyn, NY, and Alex Humphrey (Gabe) of New Bedford, MA; four grandchildren; and the family of his sister-in-law, Kathy Nelson (Larry) of Baltimore, MD.
A celebration of David's life will be held at a later date.
