Danielle Lee Cornell, 79, a former resident of Valley View Road in Shaftsbury, VT and more recently of Brookdale Fillmore Pond, passed away peacefully on April 1st, 2022 surrounded by her family.
She was born in Bennington, Vermont on November 3rd 1942 as Sarah-Maude Ruth Rogers to the late Florence Clark and Ralph Rankin Rogers. She was the tenth of fifteen children.
Danielle attended St. Francis Graded School before attending Catholic High and achieving her GED. At the age of seventeen, she married George Antonio and was later divorced. She remained close with his family, and always considered them a part of her own, even after his passing.
Danielle married John M. Cornell on June 18th, 1966 in Canaan, Connecticut. Together, they had two children: Julie and Scott. While her children were growing up, she decided to change her name to Danielle Lee and no longer go by Ruth.
Danielle spent many years working at the Grand Union in Bennington, was a favored cook at Friendly's and was known in her younger years from her time bartending at several locations including the former Mickey's Pizza.
She loved John Wayne, her family and animals, especially horses and dogs. Her horses, Star and Tonka, held a special spot in her heart, and her dogs, Amaya, Jade, Misty, Bear and Yukon, who were just a few of the beloved animal family members over the years.
Danielle was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Veterans of Foreign War Post 1332 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary. She was also a Trail Judge for the Green Mountain Gallopers 4H horse shows.
Danielle was an avid gardener and enjoyed feeding her plants and gardens while watching them grow. She was a very loving person who was always willing to help anyone that needed it, offering advice and encouragement to those who asked so that they could grow too. She is going to be deeply missed by everyone that knew her.
Danielle is survived by her husband of 55 years, John M. Cornell; their two children, Julie (Mark White) Cornell, of Bennington, VT and Scott (Joyce) Cornell, of Sandgate, VT. Four grandchildren; Philip M. (Laura) Sausville, Jr., Amanda Leigh Sausville, Nathan (Jessica) White, and Tyler (Anna) White. Great grandchildren; Russell Sausville, Trent Bolognani, Eric White, Grant White, Maxwell White and Margaret White. Three siblings; Joan E. Morse, Donald P. (April) Rogers Sr. and Susan Rogers. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by eleven siblings; Patricia A. Rogers Ogilvie, William R. Rogers, George A. Rogers, Jeanette R. Damon, Francis H. Rogers, Theodore C. Rogers, Thomas R. Rogers, James A. Rogers, Roy E. Rogers, Ralph R. Rogers Jr., and Robert J. Rogers.
Friends and family are invited to call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201 on April 8th 2022 from 10am-12pm. A memorial service for Danielle will be held at 12pm, at the funeral home. Following the service, burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.
