Daniel Keith Torres, 34, a resident of Pownal, VT passed away unexpectedly Friday May 21, 2021 in Bennington. Dan was an amazing man, an outstanding father, a loving son, brother, and friend. His charm and talent were beyond compare and his smile could light up any room.
Dan was born in Brattleboro, VT on July 24, 1986. He was the son of Pamela (Begun) Torres and Bruce Torres. Dan received his education in Bennington and was a 2004 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. He later attended Becker College and Southern Vermont College.
While attending Mount Anthony, Dan was a member of the Varsity Soccer team, Varsity Lacrosse and the Swim Team. He loved the ocean, especially Cape Cod where he resided for 4 years, and Hermit Island, ME where he spent summer vacations with his family growing up. Dan loved to snowboard and wakeboard, two sports he picked up and mastered with a flourish, always a natural at anything he touched. He was a brilliant chef, even appearing once on a Food Network competition, and creating food was one of his passions. Dan had a creative and inquisitive mind, indubitable spirit, and gigantic heart.
Dan had most recently had been employed at several area restaurants and was in the process of creating a new food truck concept to serve the Southern Vermont area, fulfilling his long-time dream.
Survivors include the love of his life, Kayla Nichols, and their son, Harrison James, Kayla's daughter Kennedy, his mother, Pamela Torres of Shirley, MA, his father Bruce Torres of Georgia, his brother Michael Torres of Chicago, IL, and his sister Jessie (Torres) Ladroga and her husband Mathew of Warren, ME, his niece and nephew, Neela and Finn Ladroga, his cousins Alexandra and Connor Begun along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Dan had a special bond with his uncle and godfather, Keith Begun, who was like a father to him throughout his life.
Calling hours will be held at Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM. The family asks that anyone not vaccinated for COVID please wear a mask.
