On Monday, December 13, 2021, Daniel R. Laughlin, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away at the age of 81.
Daniel was one of five children of John and Margaret Laughlin, born in Pittsburgh, PA April 28, 1940. He spent his childhood years in Pittsburgh and Ligonier, PA graduating from North Catholic High School in 1958. He went on to be an All American quarterback at the University of Dayton, Ohio.
Dan married the love of his life, Janet Zimmer, in 1963. He coached football and was a teacher at North Central Catholic at the beginning of his career. After the birth of three of his daughters, the family relocated to Philadelphia, PA where Dan coached football at Villanova.
After the birth of another daughter and a brief time working at Yonkers Raceway, Dan moved his family to Bennington, VT, where he was General Manager of Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, VT. At this time Dan and Jan were blessed with their first son.
Dan never left his coaching aspirations far behind and became head coach of Mount Anthony Union High School where Dan was a respected, admired, and pivotal figure and mentor to many in the community. Dan was also involved in athletics at Williams College in Williamstown, MA where he had many close friends and also made many contributions to the football program.
Dan's love for his wife and five children has always been his shining accomplishment. After the kids were raised, Dan and Jan relocated to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida where Dan worked as Operations Director of the Palm Beach Kennel Club. Dan continued to be a much admired and great friend to many during his life in Florida. Surrounded by his many cousins and friends, he made a lasting contribution to his community and will be remembered fondly by all.
Dan is pre-deceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet. He is survived by his five children, Elizabeth Flood and husband Ned of Medford, MA, Kelly Gally of Allison Park, PA, Kathleen Laughlin of Oak Park, Chicago, Illinois, Megan Laughlin Powers and her husband Ron of Manchester, VT and Daniel Laughlin Jr. of Palm Beach Garden, Florida. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a soon to be fourth, brother Arthur and Debra Laughlin of West Palm Beach, FL and brother James Laughlin of Ligonier, PA. He is predeceased by brother John Laughlin and his wife Alice, of Philadelphia, PA and sister Mary Margaret ( Peggy) Laughlin of Pittsburgh, PA.
A celebration of the life of Daniel R. Laughlin will be held at the Mount Anthony Country Club on Saturday, April 16, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Family, friends, colleagues, former coaches and team players are all welcome.
Calling hours were held at the Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 754, US 1,North Palm Beach, Florida on Monday December 20, 2021 with a funeral mass held at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in North Palm Beach on Tuesday December 21st, 2021.
Dan will be laid to rest with his wife, Jan, for a private family ceremony at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington, prior to the celebration.
Dan, the former General Manager of the Green Mountain Race Track and Mount Anthony Football Coach, died on Dec, 13, 2021 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
