On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, Daniel S. Ferris Sr., 75, of Bennington, Vermont, passed away surrounded by loved ones. The son of the late James and Winifred (Somers) Ferris, Dan was originally from Dutchess County, New York. After moving around throughout his younger years, he finally settled in Bennington in 1989. Dan worked as a farmer most of his life and as a car detailer in Bennington before later becoming disabled. He enjoyed spending time going to tag sales, fishing, tinkering with cars and motors, and listening to country music. He loved collecting clocks and pocket watches and could spend hours talking about his treasured finds. His family would describe him as loving, generous, and kind, with a strong will and a fiery spirit. Daniel was predeceased by sisters Mildred Birdsall, Catherine Wendover, Ida McEathron, and Diane Hall, as well as brothers James A. Ferris, Leonard Ferris, and Stanley Ferris. He is survived by siblings Lorraine Phillips, Muriel McEathron, and Irving Ferris. Daniel was predeceased by his wife, Darlene (Ayers) Ferris in 1996. They are survived by their children Margaret Billings, Francis Billings, Carl Billings, Danielle Ferris, Diane Thompson, Daniel Ferris Jr., Margo Ferris, and Robert Ferris, as well as many loving and devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a son, Dwayne, from a previous marriage, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Hours for visitation will be held on February 2nd, 11:00-1:00 pm at Mahar Funeral Home located at 628 Main Street in Bennington. Following the visitation, a prayer service will be held at the funeral home. Daniel’s burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made directly to his daughter, Margo Ferris, to assist with the funeral expenses.
