Dale Joseph Longtin. Age 77, a resident of Bennington died on Sunday, September 29, 2019 following a long illness. He was born in Bennington on July 21, 1942, and was the son of the late Rudolph and Geneva (Hill) Longtin. He received his education in Bennington. Dale served in the Air Force from 1960 until 1963. He met the love of his life in 1971, Phyllis Osterhoudt, and they have been together for forty-eight years. Dale had worked at UST, and was a machinist for twenty-five years. Dale was a licensed electrician, and had previously been an installer of Lightning Rods in the area. He was a member of the Elks, Lodge, the Eagles Lodge, and the Moose Lodge, all of Bennington. He enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and was one of the founder the Green Mountain Wheelers.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children: Aaron (Danielle) Longtin of Bennington, Stephanie (Steve) Doaner of Jacksonville, FL, Vanessa ( Shaun ) Ketcham of Sudbury, VT and Carla (Brian) LaBonte of Bennington. He leaves his grandchildren: Lucas and Adam Longtin, Cody Toner, Eric, Joseph, Zach and Matt Overbaugh, Mallory and Caitlyn Ketcham. and his great grandchildren; Michael Cody Toner, and Chloe Nicole Toner. Dale also is survived by one brother Richard (Jane)Longtin of Shaftsbury, Linda Megge and Carol Longtin both of Sarasota, FL, his mother-in-law, Eleanor E. Brown of Bennington and three nephews: Brad, Michael and Nathan and one niece Karma Longtin.Dale is predeceased by his parents and one brother-in-law John Megge.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Park Lawn Cemetery at 1PM. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street in Bennington, this Friday, October 4, from 4:00 until 6:00PM.
