Clive R. Monroe, 84, a resident of North Bennington Road, North Bennington, went to join his wife Marjorie and his beloved son, Clive Jr. on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Born in Canaan, NH February 11, 1934 he was the son of the late Bernard F. and Dorothy (Jordan) Monroe. Clive received his education in the White Creek, NY and Bennington schools. A U. S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.
Clive married the former Marjorie Ann Peterson on April 9, 1955 in Bennington. Marjorie died February 28, 2000.
He had been employed at the General Cable Company in Pownal for 30 years and later worked on the road crew of Petricca Construction Company.
Clive was a member of American Post Legion Post 13 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861 in Bennington. His hobbies and interests included hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Ticonderoga, NY.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Matthew McConnell of North Bennington; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Monroe of Pownal; eleven grandchildren, Erika, Erin, Katelyn, Kristin, Sarah, Hallie, Mark Sr., Scott, Eric, Julie and Peter; fourteen great-grandchildren and three sisters, Audrey Matheson of Woodford, Gail Prentiss of Bennington and Geraldine Company of Missouri; a very close brother, John Burdick and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Clive was predeceased by a son, Clive Monroe Jr. a great-grandson and two brothers, Joseph and David Monroe.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p. m.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Hinsdillville Cemetery, North Bennington on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
