Claudia Kathryn Mary Fitzpatrick Mattison (Fitzpatrick)

October 23, 1955 — May 17, 2017

Claudia Kathryn Mary Fitzpatrick Young Mattison, 61, a resident of Grove Road in Shaftsbury, VT passed away peacefully Wednesday May 17, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born in Utica, New York October 23, 1955. She was the daughter of the late William and Shirley (Tucker) Fitzpatrick. Claudia received her education in Hoosick Falls and graduated from Saint Mary's Academy where she played basketball and participated in several musicals. She later attended SUNY Plattsburgh where she graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Claudia began her nursing career at Saint Mary's in Troy, New York and later at Putnam Memorial Hospital, which is now the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Claudia worked as a nursing supervisor and was also a nurse in ICU, CCU and the Emergency Room.

She loved the ocean and traveling to Maine. An avid reader, Claudia also enjoyed cross stitching and crystal jewelry. She also enjoyed horse racing. Claudia was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and co-worker.

Survivors include her husband, Gary M. Mattison of Shaftsbury, her children, Alison Young of Shaftsbury and Nick Young of Manchester, VT; two grandchildren, Riley Young of Manchester and Carter Young of Rutland, VT, her step children, Rachel Borge and her husband Joshua of Manchester, N.H. and Gwen Mattison of Bennington. Four step grandchildren, Samuel and Isaac Borge of Manchester, N.H. and Ryan and Dana McCormack of Bennington, VT. Two sisters Colleen Begin of Hoosick Falls, NY and Donna Kennedy of Boston, MA along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her first husband, Paul F. Young.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Saturday May 20 from noon until 1:00 pm.

A memorial service to celebrate Claudia's life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

A reception will follow the service at the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Parish Center Bennington.
