Claire L. Thompson, 92, a former resident of Corey Lane, Bennington, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Brookdale at Fillmore Pond surrounded by her family.
Born in Albany, NY on November 22, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Gerald F. Finn Sr. and Rosemary E. (Brown) Finn. She received her education in the Albany schools and was a graduate of Vincentian High School. In 1947 she graduated from the College of St. Rose in Albany.
Claire married John C. Thompson at St. Theresa's Church in Albany on May 26, 1951. John died June 21, 1973.
In earlier years Claire was employed by New York Telephone in the Albany area. After moving to Bennington she accepted a position at Bennington Co-Op Savings & Loan in 1968 which later transitioned to the Bank of Bennington, where she remained until her retirement as Assistant Treasurer in 1992.
Claire was a parishioner at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. She was member of the St. Anne's Society at the church and was also was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and the Plain Dirt Gardeners. She volunteered for many years at both the Bennington Library and Bennington Museum. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include five children, Robert H. Thompson of Bennington, David E. (Janet) Thompson of Bennington, Debra A. (Paul) Lyon of Hoosick Falls, NY, Mary B. (Richard) Hendricks of Merrimack, NH and William A. (James Hasenfus) Thompson of Bennington; eleven grandchildren, Christopher Thompson, Michael Thompson, Jason Hoyt, Judi Dell'Anno, Jonathan Hoyt, Patrick Thompson, Alissa Hendricks, Adam Thompson, Shelagh Muckle, Christina Hendricks, and Rebecca Hendricks; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary B. Finn of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Claire is also survived by a former daughter-in-law, Kathy Guetti and a former son-in-law, Gerry Hoyt. She was predeceased by a sister, Maureen A. Veldman and a brother, Gerald F. Finn.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, NY.
