Charles Edward Whitman

Charles Edward Whitman Jr., 96, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18th, 2023 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness. Born on June 25th, 1927 in Barre, Vermont. He was the son of the late Charles Edward Sr. and Mildred (Nichols) Whitman. As a child, Charles moved to Bennington and attended the Bennington schools, later attending Bennington High School. As a young man he met the love of his life; the former Mable Goodwin. They were married in 1953 at Sacred Heart Church In Bennington. For many years, Charles worked as a production worker for many local mills including; Benmont Paper, Bennington Brush, and Union Carbide to name a few. In his free time, Charles enjoyed spending time with Mable and their dog Winston. For many years, they would drive their RV to Lake Panasoffkee, Florida. Charles also enjoyed going to Green Mountain Racetrack in Pownal, Vermont to watch the dog and horse racing. Survivors include his wife of 70 years; Mabel Whitman. Their granddaughter; Jennifer Johnson. As well as, many nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by a daughter Linda Denue and a sister Mary Jane. At Charles request their will be no services.
