Charles Vacchelli, "Chuck"
October 11,1941 " June 5th, 2016
On the October Harvest Moon of 1941, a son was born to a hard working Italian family, living in the Bronx of New York. His essence of strength, kindness, and generosity would make him a hero to many, especially to his family.
Chuck's character was steeped in traditional values of hard work, family, along with his huge heart. Those values would be the very foundation of how his life unfolded. Chuck built his life around his caretaking spirit. He lived from his heart always giving to those in need.
"You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.""Malcolm S. Forbes. Chuck lived to add a little sparkle to the lives of others. Throughout his life he provided small acts of kindness, he quietly gave to many charities without ever saying a word. He fed the hungry, consoled the weak and sad, and paved the way for many underdogs that needed a second chance.
His first love was his family. Especially his grandson Addison Vacchelli who held a special place in his heart. He called the past 16 years of his life "magnificent" every weekend he traveled to pick up Addison, where they would spend countless hours in toy stores, building Lego's, and going to Denny's for burgers and milkshakes.
Chuck's second love in life was his work. His career spanned over 40 years as an Optician. Over the past decade Chuck worked for BJ's Optical, where he remained all the way up a few months ago. People would travel far and wide to have Chuck help them with their eyeglasses. His canny sense of humor and New Yorker Charm had people coming back for years. He loved to put a smile on people's faces, he always had a few good jokes to get people going. His cool demeanor made him even more likable, at 74 he still wore leather jackets, had the latest style of eyeglass frames, and was always in the 'New York State of Mind".
His passion of sports along with his quick-wit made him a man's man. He was loved by many.
Chuck wholeheartedly invested in whatever he undertook, from his chicken soup that warmed the heart and soul, to his homemade Italian sauce that simmered for days, to his flower gardens that grew with grace and beauty.
A hero is defined as "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities". As the daughter of a man whose life modeled these qualities he will always remain the hero of my heart.
