Charles Ellis Goodrum

Bennington- Charles E. “Cheech” Goodrum Jr., 82, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on December 11th, 2022 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, following a brief illness. Born on July 14th, 1940, in Bennington, VT. He was the Son of the late Charles E. Goodrum Sr. and Helen Colliano. He was raised in Bennington by his mother Helen and her late 2nd Husband Leonard Horton, and attended the Bennington schools. On October 29, 1960, Charles married the Former Shirley Mears at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Bennington. For over 30 years, Charles was employed by the William H. Morse Construction Company as a carpenter. Following the closing of the company he continued his work as a carpenter at Bennington College for over 10 years, doing various upkeep and maintenance work. Charles was a member of the American Legion Post #13 of Bennington. He loved to spend his time outdoors as he enjoyed fishing and ice fishing year round and riding four-wheelers to Sucker Pond. Charles loved nature and trees so much, he even enjoyed chopping wood for his woodstove! Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include; his Wife of 62 years, Shirley Goodrum of Bennington. As well as their daughters; Susan Goodrum of Niskayuna, New York and Kathy Gardner (Mike) of Pownal, VT. and a grandson; Nicholas Goodrum. Charles is predeceased by his step father, Leonard Horton and his beloved granddaughter, Brittany Godin. Friends and Family are invited to an hour of visitation from 11am till 12pm on December 15th, 2022 at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington. Immediately following the visitation, the family will process to Park Lawn Cemetery for the graveside committal service.
