Cecil Eugene Daugherty

POWNAL- Cecil “Gene” Daugherty, Jr. 68, a resident of Pownal Vermont passed away on February 21st, 2024 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vermont. Born in Brookville, PA on June 9th, 1955 to the late Cecil E. Daugherty Sr and Phyllis Heasley. Gene graduated from Maine Technical Automotive with his associates degree. He was employed as a machinist at Johnson Controls, BiJur and Starbase, in Pittsfield, MA. Gene married his highschool sweetheart, Susan A. Vien. They would have celebrated their 45th anniversary this upcoming June. Gene was an avid hunter who enjoyed deer, turkey and duck hunting. He preferred to spend his time hunting or working on his archery skills. If he wasn’t hunting, he was spending time with his family. He enjoyed spending time watching NASCAR and attending classic rock concerts with his wife and his sisters. Gene enjoyed spending time at his family farm in Fisher, PA, where they recently built a hunting camp. When Catamount Bowhunters was established, he was the president. His dogs, Magnum, Layla, Wesson and Lucy, were a highlight of his life. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Susan A. (Vien) Daugherty, his three children; Ashley Daugherty (Liam O’Brien-Garvey), James Daugherty, and Christopher Daugherty (Danica Hill). His grandson, Ethan Cross. His sisters, Marlene Boyd, Deniese Wells (Bob), Tracy Dorman (Jeff), his sister-in-laws, Jeannie Cottrell (Jimmy) and Bonnie Kalinowski (Bob). Cecil is also survived by nieces, nephews and many cousins. A service for Gene will be held on Thursday, February 29th at 12:00pm at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. There will be a celebration of Gene’s life immediately following the service.
