Cecilia A. Harrington, 86, a resident of West Mountain Road in Shaftsbury, Vermont died Wednesday April 6, 2016 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Bennington, VT October 15, 1929. She was the daughter of the late John and Marguerite (Mooney) Murphy. Cecilia received her early education in Shaftsbury and attended North Bennington High School.
She married Donald K. Harrington on June 14, 1947 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Mr. Harrington died September 23, 1999.
In earlier years Cecelia was employed by the McCullough Family in North Bennington. She later worked at Thomson Manufacturing in Bennington from which she retired to care for her husband.
She was a member of the Farm Bureau and served as chairperson of the Green Mountain Dairy Association. She loved to attend the sporting events and activities that her grandchildren participated in. Her family was her main interest
Survivors include her children, Dawn Ludwig and her husband Fritz of Shaftsbury, VT and Craig Harrington and his wife Karolyn of North Bennington. Five grandchildren, Courtney Ludwig of Shaftsbury, Christopher Ludwig and his wife Sarah of Boston, MA, Seth Harrington and Hannah of Rutland, VT, Brett Harrington of North Bennington and Nikki Harrington of North Bennington; a great grandchild, Baylee Harrington of Rutland, VT and a sister, Mary Ellen Harrington of Bennington and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by eight brothers and sisters, Walter Murphy, Francis Murphy, Theresa O'Brien, John Joseph Murphy, Thomas Murphy, Marion Murphy, William Murphy and Rita Madden.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday April 11, with a prayer at10:15 a.m. and then from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington at 11:00 a.m where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
The burial will take place in the family lot at Saint John's Cemetery in North Bennington.
Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday April 10, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
