Mrs. Carolyn Heath Eddington, 85, a resident of Bennington, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Brookdale Fillmore Pond following a brief illness.
Born February 27, 1931 in Randolph, Vermont, she was the daughter of Allan and Clara (Greenwood) Heath. She and her family moved to Bennington in 1944. Carolyn was a graduate of the former Bennington High School, class of 1948. Carolyn attended Syracuse University where she studied Education and English and was vice president of the Quill and Keys, an organization of women studying in the College of Business Administration. She was also a member of the Women's Recreation Association and played on the Syracuse women's basketball team. She graduated in 1952.
Carolyn married the late Harry J. Eddington at St. Francis de Sales Church on June 21, 1952. They lived on Jefferson Heights in Bennington and had been married for 50 years when Harry passed away.
Carolyn was an active member of the Bennington community all her life. She worked at Bennington College and she served for many years as a Gray Lady at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, a role in which she took great pride. Carolyn was a devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and served on the Church merger committee. She was also a member of the Bennington Museum. Carolyn was an avid Bridge player, a renowned baker, and an enthusiastic sports fan. Carolyn was dedicated to her family and they will carry her heart with them.
Survivors include three children and their spouses: Stephen and Patti Eddington, Nancy and Jim Gratton, and Kathleen Fitzpatrick; eight grandchildren: Tyler Gratton, Julia Eddington, Jenna Bakken, William Eddington, Brian Fitzpatrick, Meghan Fitzpatrick, Aidan Fitzpatrick, and Sean Fitzpatrick; three great-grandchildren: Henry Eddington D'Agostino, Kora Grace, and Eviana; her brother, Gordon Heath, and his family, and her sister, Marcia H. Masse, and her family. She is also survived by many dear friends. In addition to her husband, Carolyn was predeceased by her daughter, Sarah Lynn Eddington, and her sister, Patricia Hartshorne.
The funeral will be held at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Friday, January 13 at 11 a.m. where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be celebrated.
There are no calling hours.
Private committal services will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
