Carole Mora Maroney

Carole Mora Maroney, 86, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully at Fairwinds residential care home in North Bennington on February 5th, 2024, following her battle with Alzheimer’s. Born on December 25th, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Archibald J. “Archie” MacLean and Catherine M. MacArthur. She received her early education and was raised in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Carole later graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Guelph and became a registered nurse. On August 27th, 1966, she married Edwin Thomas Maroney at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Bennington, Vt. Carole worked for many years as the Evening Nursing Supervisor at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington (Southwestern Vermont Medical Center). She later ended her career at the hospital following the birth of her daughters. Carole later was offered a position as the industrial nurse for Globe Union/Johnson Controls in Bennington, she worked there for many years until the plant closed in the early 90s. In retirement, Carole and Ed would spend their winters in Dunedin, Florida. They traveled down and back for nearly 30 years coming back for the holidays and leaving very promptly following Christmas. During the summer months, they were always back to Bennington, where Carole became well known as “The Flower Lady” of Willys Variety, selling many flowers, and plants to many loyal customers. Carole’s main interest was her family, especially her grandchildren. She of course enjoyed gardening, and was well known by her family for her famous Raspberry Jam. Carole also was very fond of Shopping, her daughters and her put on many miles walking through the racks and aisles of many stores. She enjoyed shopping for gifts for others most of all. Survivors include her husband of over 57 years; Edwin T. Maroney. Her daughters and their husbands; Mary Ellen Devlin (Art), Liza Reif (Patrick). Her grandsons; Shawn Devlin (Annie), Colin Joyce, and Sebastian Reif. Her siblings; Florence “Betty” Phillips, George MacLean (Marlene), Gordon MacLean (Theresa), Cathy Isman (Doug), and Christine Heffernan (Jerry). Her brothers-in-law and their wives; David Maroney (Cindy), Brian Maroney (Jan), and Thomas Maroney (Julia). Carole is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Carole is predeceased by a brother-in-law; Fred Phillips. Calling hours for Carole will be held from 5:30pm until 7:30pm on Thursday February 8th, 2024 at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. Immediately following the conclusion of calling hours, there will be a funeral service for Carole at the funeral home. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 9th, 2024 from 6pm till 8pm at the Bennington Elks Lodge #567. The family would like to thank Wanda and Wayne King and the excellent staff of Fairwinds Residential Care Home for all of the wonderful care and support they offered Carole and the entire family during her time there.
