Carlos Aguirre was born in the small town of Herveo, Tolima, Colombia on September 20th, 1957. He pursued the American Dream in 1992 and made a home with his family in the US, first in New York City, then in Upstate New York. Later, he found his place in his beloved Vermont.
Carlos is well known for his indefatigable work ethic, most notably for his invaluable contributions to the Four Chimneys Inn for 30 years. Whether at Four Chimneys or any of the many jobs he had over the years, Carlos did not just work - he served. He cared. And everyone knew it. In the decade and a half that he lived in Bennington, he wove himself into the fabric of the community as a friend and participant in town life.
Ever the mountain man, Carlos took his love for the Andes of his childhood and brought it to the Green Mountains, enjoying hikes in nature and he cherished spending time with local friends at his favorite local pubs. The most significant job of Carlos’s life was being a loving father who beamed with pride at every mention of his sons. Truly, in his eyes, their success was proof that he had indeed achieved the American Dream.
Carlos’s departure is a loss for all – yet his unwavering kindness was a gift that we will each carry for life. May we all strive to be the true amigo he was to all. Carlos leaves behind his wife Norma and stepdaughter Carol, three sons by his first wife, Esther - David, Danny, and Sammy, his two beloved granddaughters, Malú and Luna, and his mother and 3 siblings.
