Carl Steinmeyer

Carl Steinmeyer, 84, a resident of Shaftsbury, VT passed away on Monday January 24, 2022 after a brief illness.

Carl was born in Garden City, Long Island, New York. He was the son of the late Frank and Dorothy (Finn) Steinmeyer. He moved to Sidney, Maine at the age of nine, where his parents operated a large dairy farm. Carl often spoke of the privilege he had growing up on the farm.

Graduating from the University of Maine with a degree in electrical engineering. In his early years, he worked at Western Electric and Sprague Electric. Later moving on to his position with the Springfield Terminal Railroad, retiring after twenty-six years of service.

After his retirement he spent many enjoyable hours working with his model trains and perfecting his train layout. Carl was a member of the Boston & Maine Railway Historical Society, the Berkshire Model Railroad Club and the local Bennington model railroad group.

Besides his wife of sixty-one years, Eileen, he leaves three children, Michael Steinmeyer (and his wife Mila) of California, Cheryl Hulbert (and her husband Scott) of Williamstown, VT and Lisa Pitrowiski of Essex, VT. Six grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with two brothers, Ray and Robert Steinmeyer of Maine.
Carl was a lover of animals large and small, he loved them all. He leaves behind his little adopted Yorkshire Terrier "Cricket".
