CARL HERMANSKY OBITUARY
SUNDERLAND, VERMONT

Carl O. Hermansky, age 91, a resident of Sunderland, VT died on March 20, 2019 at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Carl was born in North Bergen, NJ on June 4, 1927, the son of the late Frederick and Katherine (Wagner) Hermansky.

As a young man, Carl was an avid gymnast at the Swiss Turnverein in Union City, NJ where, in 1944, he met June R. Norman, also a gymnast. Shortly after his graduation from Emerson HS in Union City, he enlisted in the Merchant Marines where he served his country from 1945-48. Upon completing his service, he married June, the love of his life, in North Bergen, and began their life together living in the family apartment building in Union City. They remained very much in love throughout their 63 years of marriage.

In 1956 Carl & June moved from Union City and settled in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, where together they raised their six children. During this time, Carl worked first for New York Life Insurance Co., later as a salesman for an industrial equipment manufacturing company, and then in the chemical industry as a maintenance supervisor. He also maintained the rental properties he owned in Union City, his childhood home, and in nearby Jersey City, NJ.

Having frequently visited Vermont throughout the years, Carl & June moved to Sunderland in 1988. The family ran the Sunderland Country Shoppes for more than two decades, becoming fixtures in the Northshire. Carl would often recite poetry to visitors of the store. He quickly became something of an attraction, in his own right, to the many tourists, and locals alike, who passed through the store.

Carl's interest in gymnastics never faded. Often retelling stories of gym days gone by, he passed along his love of the sport to his children, and enjoyed watching his grand children and great-grandchildren carry on the gymnastics tradition. Carl also keenly enjoyed listening to opera and completing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles. He spent much time tinkering on many different projects, home renovations, and always volunteered to help friends and neighbors with their own home maintenance issues.

He loved his family unconditionally and would be the first to tell people he lived a great life. Sadly, his beautiful wife June passed away in April, 2012.

He is survived by two sons; Jeff (Natalie) Hermansky of Wyoming, and Troy (Sara Tucker) Hermansky of Sunderland; daughter, and Kim (Gary Perkins) Ferguson of Ballston Spa, NY. He leaves sixteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Carl is predeceased by two sons, Brett N. Hermansky and Clay S. Hermansky, and recently by one daughter, Darryl J. Davis.

A celebration of life will be planned by his family at a later time.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Hermansky's honor may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
