Bruce Raymond Watters, 82, of Bennington Vermont passed away October 31st, 2023, after a long illness. Born November 19, 1940 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The son of Roland and Mary (Viera) Watters. He attended Attleboro schools and upon completion entered the military, choosing the Air Force. He served in Security Services in many foreign posts including Taiwan, Italy, and Germany. Upon completion of his service he married Marilyn Burgess and they went back to Germany where he started a long career as an insurance agent. After many years they returned to Raynham, Massachusetts where he continued his career. He then began working at Leach & Garner in Attleboro and married Ludmila Kopecky after which he also opened his own insurance agency. After some time he returned to Germany to continue his insurance career. They returned to the States due to his mother’s and father’s failing health. Upon their passing they moved to Woodford, Vermont where they lived and ran the Avalon Motel. After his retirement they moved to Bennington. He was an avid tennis player and played in recreational leagues. He loved Ted Williams and the Red Sox. He was a lifetime dog lover and enjoyed giving rescued dogs a home. He loved music and attended many concerts with his special favorites being Shania Twain and Carrie Underwood. He loved going out to eat especially if German cuisine was offered. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in passing by his brother Rolan (Butch) Watters Jr. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Ludmila (Lida) Watters, his ear sister-in-law Joan Watters, his beloved nephews and their families Jef and Bernadette Watters, Craig and Pattie Watters, Todd Watters and Leslie, Kurt Watters and Carol Ann and Eric Watters and Cheryl. His brother-in-law Alan Kopecky and niece Jessica Lanausse and her husband Dantes and their daughter Annalena and his dog Remy. A memorial service for Bruce will be held at 11am on November 11th, 2023 at Mahar Funeral Home in Bennington. Friends and relatives are invited to begin arriving at 10:30am until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the teams that helped Bruce through his last years. The excellent Veterans Home based Primary Care Team- Dr. Mike Daley, Janet O’Bryan RN, Caitlin, Rachel and many others. Also the wonderful VNA-Hospice Team- Monica, RN, Roberta, Ed, Mary and others.
