Brenda J. Bruso, 64, a resident of Bennington, Vermont passed away peacefully on Saturday June 17th, 2023, surrounded by her three girls and her family, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, following a long illness. Born on May 11, 1959 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Scutt Sr. and Doris Phelps. Brenda received her education in Berkshire County schools. Family being important to Brenda, for many years she was a homemaker caring for her girls: Tonya, Tammie, and Misty. Brenda was a previous member of the Moose Lodge, a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, and Bennington Rural Fire Department Women's Auxiliary. She had many interests, including spending time with her family, scrapbooking, and spending time at the ocean. Brenda loved Ogunquit, Maine, the Bahamas, Top Sail, North Carolina, and Umpachene Falls, Massachusetts. She also loved to go on cruises. Brenda was also known to “soap” the occasional fountain, and write a song or two. Brenda taught her children many things but most importantly, love everyone no matter their circumstances, the color of their skin, or their beliefs. Give to others if you have it and rejoice in all things. On May 14th, 1977 she married Thomas J. Bruso. On June 19th, 1986 Thomas passed away unexpectedly. Brenda later married Carroll “Joe” Shores on December 28th, 1997. They later separated; however, still remained friends. Survivors include her daughters; Tonya Bruso (Herb Sprague), Tammie Bruso-Bleau (Bryon Bleau), and Misty (Jena) Shores. Her step-children; Andrew Veach, Lisa Woodson, Josh Allen, and Joseph Adams. 35 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her siblings; Tyke Scutt, Debbie (Chino) Shockley, Theresa (John) Whitney, Jean Schroder (Chris Shores), and Raymond Scutt Jr. Brenda is also survived by her “sis-cuz’s” Cheryl Shaw “P-twin” and Barb (Paula) Kickery. In addition, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Brenda is pre-deceased by her baby brothers Charles Scutt and John Scutt, her sister Annie England, and step-mother Pat Scutt. A memorial service for Brenda will be held at the Mahar Funeral Home on Saturday June 24th, 2023 at 1pm. Friends and relatives are invited to arrive at the funeral home at 12:30pm until the time of the service. A graveside service will follow at the family plot in White Chapel Cemetery, where Brenda will be laid to rest next to her beloved, Thomas J. Bruso.
