Beverly W. McCoy of Bennington Vermont passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26th, 2025, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Beverly was born in Middlebury (Salisbury) Vermont on November 30th, 1935, to the late Forrest and Helen Wimett. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1953 and went on to fulfill her dream of being a nurse at Grasslands Hospital in White Plains NY and The Putnam School of Nursing in Bennington Vermont. She was a fixture in the local nursing community working at Putnam Memorial Hospital (SVMC), the Bennington Convalescent Center, the Bennington School System and private duty nursing.
Beverly will be remembered for her many charitable acts which greatly enhanced the community. When she volunteered for a cause, she could be counted on to give 110% to make it successful. She will also be remembered for her love of family, the theater, arts and animals. In her later years of life, one of the highlights of her week would be spending an afternoon with the animals at the Second Chance Animal Shelter.
Beverly is survived by her husband of 67 years, William L. McCoy of Bennington and her son Bruce and his wife Julia of Newburyport Massachusetts. She is also survived by her sister Ann Pomainville of Salisbury Vermont and her brother John Wimett of Lewis New York. She was predeceased by her brother Wendell (Bud) Wimett. She also leaves behind many nieces, and nephews.
Calling hours for Beverly will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the E.P Mahar and Son Funeral Home starting at 12pm with the funeral at 2pm followed by a graveside ceremony at Park Lawn Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in Beverly’s name are encouraged to donate to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Arlington, Vermont.
