Barbara Jean Cappella

Barbara Jean Cappella 93, a resident of Wilmington, Vermont passed away peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT on May 14th, 2024 following a brief and unexpected illness. Born on June 21st, 1930 in Manhattan, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Imre) Breza. Barb moved with her family early in her childhood and was raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She and her family would spend their summers at Fairfield Beach in Fairfield, CT. After Barb graduated high school, she later attended the University of Bridgeport School of Nursing. She received her bachelor's degree and began a career as a psychiatric nurse. Following a nearly thirty year career in psychiatric health care, she retired as the nursing supervisor at the Rutgers University Mental Health Clinic in New Jersey. During her long career she helped countless individuals. On her birthday in 1956, she married John Carmen Cappella in Manhattan. They were married for over thirty years. Mr. Capella passed away in 1989. In retirement she moved to Wilmington. There she enjoyed Birdwatching and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barb always loved returning to the beach, as well as kayaking and sailing. Barb also had a passion for the supernatural. She was a Licensed Hypnotist and enjoyed studying the works of Edgar Cayce, a clairvoyant from the early 1900’s. Survivors include her children; Lisa Gilbeau (Rocky), Blaise Johnson, and Carmen Capella (Liscet). Her grandchildren; Alicia (Nate), Melissa (Lance), Cynthia, Jonathan (Kattie), and Jadelyn. Her great grandchildren; Spencer, Nevaeh, Addissa, Leonard, Dezarae, Peyton, Samantha, Brooke, Cameron, Maverick, and Abigail. Barb is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides her Husband; John Carmen Capella, Barb was predeceased by a daughter Cindy Cappella. Following with Barb’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or formal funeral services at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a later date to be announced by the family.
