Barbara "Jean" Austin, 58, a resident of Safford Street, Bennington, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Born in Bennington on April 26, 1957, she was the daughter of the late John Meerwarth and the former Barbara (Burdick) Meerwarth who survives.
Jean received her education in Bennington and was a 1975 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School. She later attended CCV in Bennington where she studied medical billing and coding.
Jean had been employed in the office at SVMC Orthopedics in Bennington and later at Taconic Spine in Manchester for several years.
She was a motorcycle enthusiast and was a member of CC Riders Motorcycle Club in Albany, NY. Jean also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Tanya Austin of Arlington, Trisha (Thomas) Rich of Shaftsbury and Tiffany Austin of North Bennington; three grandchildren, Katalina and Alana Rich and Lorana Austin; her mother, Barbara Meerwarth of Bennington; a sister, Joyce (James) DiGennaro of Bennington; a brother, Jack (Paula) Meerwarth of White Creek, NY; a half-sister, Tracey (Craig) Way of South Carolina; a half-brother, Jeremy (Amanda) Meerwarth of Bennington and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Barbara Jean Austin will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Snyder officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 12 noon until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery in North Bennington.
Jean's request for memorial donations was for friends and family to donate to her daughters in order to "lend a helping hand" through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
