Assunta Mazzola

Assunta “Susie” Mazzola, 87 of Shaftsbury, VT, passed away unexpectedly on May 7, 2024, at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY. She was born in Fara Filiorum Petri, Chieti Italy on April 24, 1937, the daughter of Emilio and Maria DiFulvio. Her family emigrated to the United States and settled in New Canaan, CT where she met Antonio S. Mazzola Sr. They were married at St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan on July 12, 1958. Tony passed away on February 2, 2009. Assunta and Tony moved to Shaftsbury, VT in 1982 where they founded Shaftsbury Saab Auto Repair on Route 7A. Assunta loved gardening, her animals and cooking. Her family came above all else, bringing her great joy in her life. Assunta is survived by her three children and their spouses, Mary and John Cicirello of North Bennington, VT, Antonio S. “Tony” Jr. and Mary Pat Mazzola of Bennington, VT and Donato “Danny” and Michelle Mazzola of Shaftsbury, VT. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Assunta, John, Stefano, Paul, James, Juliet, Isabel and Anthony, as well as two great grandchildren and her siblings, Serena Luberti, John DiFulvio and Emma Cicchini. In addition to her husband, Assunta was predeceased by her brothers, Domenico, Constantino and Gildo DiFulvio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, VT on Tuesday May 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at the Mazzola family mausoleum in Shaftsbury Center Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, VT on Monday May 13, 2024 from 5-7 PM.
