Arthur W. Charron

July 9, 1930 — July 29, 2022

BENNINGTON - Arthur William Charron Jr., 92, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, passed away peacefully at the Vermont Veterans Home on Friday July 29th, 2022, following a long illness.

Born on July 9th, 1930, in North Adams, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Alice (Charbonneau) Charron and Arthur Charron Sr. He attended Drury High school and enlisted with the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and served during the Korean War.

On May 19th,1973, Art married the former Rhoda Spahn in Bennington. Rhoda currently resides at the Vermont Veterans Home.

Art worked for a few local businesses before beginning his career with Bijur that lasted nearly 45 years. For many years he was a production worker and in later years worked for the production quality control department.

Art was very involved with the Bennington Elks Lodge #567 and more specifically he was integral to the operation of the Lodge's Veterans Services Committee. The committee was so important to Art that not even physical limitations stopped him from weekly involvement with this committee. Art was a Past Exalted Ruler and a lodge trustee for over 32 years. He took great pride in serving for over 46 years in his most beloved position as Veterans Service Chairman. He also took great pride in offering a yearly memorial service for the Elks for those veterans that had passed away during the following year. He was recognized by the Elks' state association, Grand Lodge, and the State of Vermont for his dedication to veterans and the Vermont Veterans Home. He was selected to support the Veterans Home as a Trustee for over thirty years and was a volunteer there for over 35 years. Art was a humble man, but in truth he was a model Elk that embodied the four cardinal virtues of the fraternal organization: Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity. He will be deeply missed by all his Brother and Sister Elks.

He was also a life member of the Bennington Veterans of Foreign Wars post #1332

Art had a passion for fishing, which is evident on the property of the Veterans Home, where the private fishing pond is named in his honor: "Charron Pond"

He is survived by his stepchildren George Williamson, William Williamson and Lisa, Lori, & William Stewart. He is survived by step grandchildren; Adam Cabana, Ashley Cabana (Elizabeth Mutti) and Alexis Smith (Taylor Dow). Step great grandchildren; Ethan Stewart and Elizabeth Stewart Conkling.

He is predeceased by a daughter, Michaela Charron. As well as a sister; Claire Blanco.
