Arthur J. Barriere Jr., 84, a well-known educator in Bennington and a resident of 40 Harbour Road died Friday December 21, 2018 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA May 13,1934. He was the son of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Hatin) Barriere. Art received his education in Pittsfield and was a graduate of Saint Joseph's Catholic High School. He later graduated from Bridgeport University with a bachelor's degree in education and later received his Master's Degree in Education from North Adams State College. Mr. Barriere served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He married the former Donna Robert in Adams Mass on November 24, 1960.
Art started his teaching career in Adams in 1960 and eventually began working for the Bennington School District, holding several positions until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 307. He enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his flower gardens. He loved his dog "Patches" and in earlier years camping. His family and grandchildren were his main interest.
Survivors include his wife Donna Barriere of Bennington. A daughter Karen Ranttila of Bennington. A son Michael Barriere of Shaftsbury. Five grandchildren, Chris Barriere, Amanda Ranttila, Emily Ranttila, Hayley Barriere and Jacob Ranttila. Along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Friday December 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.
There will be no calling hours.
