Arnold I. Clayton, 82, a resident of Burgess Road in Bennington died unexpectedly Friday October 6, 2017 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.
He was born in Dorset, VT July 10, 1935. He was the son of the late Edwin and Irene (Hazelton) Clayton. He received his education in Manchester.
He married the former Eadie Barbara Cushman on August 30, 1958. Mrs. Clayton died July 17, 2007.
For over 40 years Arnold had been employed as a painter in the maintenance department at Bennington College.
He was a member of the former Bennington Club. An avid golfer, Arnold also enjoyed playing cribbage and loved to go to the beach. His family and grandchildren were his main interest.
Survivors include his children, Mark Clayton of Bennington, Dawn Perkins and her husband Adam of Pownal, VT and Shelley Clayton of Arlington, VT. His grandchildren, Seth Perkins, Gage Perkins, Garrett Perkins, Aliviah Bahan, Amber Bahan, Dante Lalloy and Kendra Lalloy. His brothers Al Clayton and his wife Janet of Arlington, Jerry Clayton and his wife Jean of North Bennington and Ken Clayton of Vergennes, VT; a sister Janice Bruce of NY. Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Richard and Neil Clayton and a sister Ethel McWayne.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday October 10 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kathy Clark of the East Arlington Federated Church officiating.
The burial will follow in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
At Arnold's request there will be no calling hours.
