Arlin Brown, 89, North Bennington, VT passed away peacefully on August 7 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
Born in Bethel, VT on March 13, 1932 to Eunice and Gordon Brown. Arlin received his primary education in East Bethel, Graduated 1950 from South Royalton High and attended Vermont Agricultural School graduating in 1951. Arlin enlisted in the United States Army, honorably served from December 1952 to November 1954 during the Korean war and earned the rank of Sergeant.
Arlin married Martha Wakefield of Randolph, VT on June 29, 1952 in Randolph. They were partners and best friends for 69 years.
Arlin was an accomplished machinist whose career started at Cone Manufacturing in Windsor, VT., then moved his family to Bennington in 1966 for a job at Sibley Manufacturing. In 1977, he and Ken Olney opened Arken Industries and Arlin finished his machinist career with owning A. Brown Company on Sage Street in North Bennington with Martha. After stepping away from machining Arlin, along with Martha managed several large paper routes delivering the Want Ad Digest, Auto Hunter and Vermont News Guide around the region.
Arlin enjoyed time with his family, loved gardening, playing games, telling good jokes and stories of the good old times, and especially dancing the night away with his sweetheart Martha.
He is predeceased by his grandparents, Horace and Carrie Kingsbury who raised him, parents, Eunice A. and Gordon A. Brown, siblings: Arlene Covino, Marion Hughes, Janet Ladd and Gordon A. Brown II.
He is survived by wife, Martha Brown, children: Robert A. Brown and William R. Memmott dec'd husband (New Orleans, LA), Ronald and Joyce Brown (Hudson, NH), Cynthia and Edwin Luce (North Bennington, VT), grandchildren: Sarah Brown, Wesley M. Luce and Kristen Letourneau-Luce, brother, Leo and Sylvia Brown and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Mahar & Son Funeral Home (masks required).The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, August 14 at the funeral home (masks required) and live streamed on Zoom https://bit.ly/ArlinBrownFuneral . The burial will take place at Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center on Wednesday, August 18 at 11:00 am.
