BENNINGTON
Antoinette E. Houran, 96, a resident of County Street, Bennington, died peacefully
on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation.
Born in Holyoke, MA on September 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late
Arthur and Clara (Branchaud) Lalumiere. Antoinette received her education in the
Bennington schools and was a graduate of the former St. Josephs Business School.
She married Lawrence B. Houran at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington on May 3,
1941. Mr. Houran died April 27, 2005.
In earlier years Mrs. Houran was employed at BenMont Paper Company and later
at Fishmans, Woolworth's and W. T. Grant department stores. She was a devout
member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and also a member of St.
Anne's Society.
Antoinette enjoyed crafts, reading, tea parties with her friends and time spent with
her family at their camp on Lake Champlain.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in- law, James L. and Rita Houran of
Bennington; a daughter-in- law, Debra Rousseau; four grandchildren, Lynn
(Ramon) Guilmette, Scott (April) Houran, Audra (Mark Onorato) Houran and
Christina (Charles) Bradfield; six great-grandchildren, Sean, Noah, Megan, Ryan,
Elizabeth and Ethan; two great-great- grandchildren, Parker and Colton; a sister,
Yvonne LaFlamme of Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She
was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Houran; a son, David Houran and two
sisters, Marguerite Leonard and Augustine Abila.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Monday, April
2nd , 2018 at 12:00 noon with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales
Church at 12:30 p.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be
offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the
service.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
