POWNAL- Anson Mason Pratt II aka 'Sonny' to his friends and family, 89, a resident of Mason Hill Rd North in Pownal, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 22, 2021 at SVMC surrounded by his loving family.
Sonny was proud of the deep roots he had in Pownal which began on the family dairy farm. He knew every inch of the land he owned, was well known for wearing John Deere green clothing, had horses that raced at Green Mountain Race Track and drove school bus for Pownal Elementary School. Sonny went on to drive tractor trailer hauling lumber for a local sawmill and then worked at Tansitor Electronics until his retirement in 2004. Sonny was a much loved member of the Pownal United Methodist Church and Pownal Swinging Seniors. He truly enjoyed his time as an active member of the Tri State Antique Tractor Club and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting. The walls in his house show some of the mounted treasures he has acquired. Sonny was a proud Veteran serving in the Marines during the Korean War and in 2015 was able to visit the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC as part of a Leatherstocking Honor Flight.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Janice and four daughters from his first marriage Alison Wyman, Arlene (Joe) Morse, Annette (Gary) Nelson, and Amy Hoyt. He is also survived by Alan (Debbie) Buck, Nancy (Harry) Briggs Sr., and Tim (Patricia) Buck, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sonny is predeceased by his parents Philip and Lulu (Rathbun) Pratt, his brothers Philip Jr and Wilson Pratt, his sister Anne George and grandchildren Jennifer Morse, Amy Squiers and Gavin Briggs.
A memorial service for Anson will be held at the Pownal United Methodist Church in Pownal, Vermont on Saturday May 21, 2022 at 10am. Immediately following the service, relatives and friends are invited to remain at the church for a time of felowship and refreshment.
