SHAFTSBURY- Annette Rice, 88, a resident of Shaftsbury and former resident of North Bennington, VT passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2024 at Crescent Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington, VT. She was born in Bennington on October 17th, 1935 to the late Theophile and Cedulie (LeClerc) LaFlamme. Annette received her education at Sacred Heart School. Annette was married to Richard J. Rice on June 12th, 1954 at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. They were married 54 years when he passed away on March 14th, 2008. In earlier years, Annette was active with her husband in the operation of the family roofing business. She was a devoted Catholic, always in attendance for Sunday Mass until Covid hit. One of her favorite hobbies was knitting. She loved to make sweaters and afghans, gifting them to everyone. Annette was an avid hunter. Her most accomplished day hunting resulted in both a deer and a bear. She also enjoyed spending time fishing. In later years, she found enjoyment making puzzles and playing cards. Family and friends were always one of her main priorities. She was a very social person and loved to chat. Survivors include a son, Richard J. Rice Jr., of North Bennington and three daughters; Sandra Rhode, of North Bennington, Tammy (Robert) Gerity, of Shaftsbury, and Karen (Jon) Moriarty, of Langdon, NH. She has thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, a daughter, Michelle Niles, a sister, Leona Smith, two brothers, Rev. Julien J. LaFlamme and Adrian F. LaFlamme. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. The burial will take place immediately following the mass in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery, where Annette will be laid to rest with her husband.
