Anna W. Hilliard (Walker)

Anna W. Hilliard, 96, a former resident of Silk Road in Bennington died Sunday March 5, 2017 at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

She was born at the family home in North Bennington on November 25, 1920. She was the daughter of the late George Simeon Walker and Martha (Vogel) Walker. Anna received her education in North Bennington and was a 1939 graduate of North Bennington High School.

She married Harold A. Hilliard Jr. on October 24, 1942 at the First Baptist Church in Bennington. Mr. Hilliard died February 27, 1996.

In earlier years Anna was employed at the Ben Mont Paper Company and for many years at the Union Carbide Corporation from which she retired in 1982.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bennington. Anna enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She especially enjoyed beading and had made Christmas ornaments for all of her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine Pembroke of Bennington. Four grandchildren, Todd Pembroke of Fort Collins, Colorado, Lisa Pembroke of Cambridge, NY, Kimberly Burdick of Hoosick Falls, NY and Jeffrey Pembroke and his wife Rosemary of East Greenwich, R.I.. Ten great grandchildren, Lauren Burdick Peterson, Hillary Burdick, Kelsey Gallett, Nicholas, Conor, Cameron and Noah Pembroke, DeAnna Wardwell and Alex and Anna Pembroke; a great-great grandson Maxwell Peterson and a special niece who Anna raised, Patricia Hebert. Along with many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by seven brothers and sisters, Joseph Plue, Elizabeth Schubert, Clarence Walker, James Walker, Thelma Smith, Frederick Walker and her twin sister Ida Racicot.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday March 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday March 11, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Weigers of the First Baptist Church officiating

The burial will take place in the family lot at Hinsdiville Cemetery in North Bennington.
