Ann Cathryn Sawyer

Born on October 23, 1928, in Hoosick Falls, New York to the late Ann (Smith) and Edward "Pete" Moore. Ann was the oldest and only girl of their five children. Caring for her four brothers created a deep love for family, which Ann continued throughout her long life. She received her early education in Hoosick Falls and graduated from Saint Mary's Academy.
As a young woman, she fell in love and married her husband, Charles "Chuck" Sawyer. They began what would be a nearly 65- year marriage. Soon after, they began building their family. Once the kids were a little older, and with the help of her mother- in- law; Ann was able to go back to school to earn her license to be a practical nurse (LPN) at the Putnam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
She began her career with Putnam Memorial Hospital which later became Southern Vermont Medical Center as a switchboard operator. Ann felt drawn to care for the patients that called the hospital, similar to how she cared for her brothers and her children. After graduating from nursing school, she worked in many different areas and departments. Ann's favorite position was the operating room. For nearly 30 of her over 50- year career, she enjoyed the comradery with her colleagues as well as the technical demands of the OR. After her stint in the OR, she began working for many of the surgeons in their private practices and thoroughly enjoyed learning new procedures and her daily contact with the patients. Not daunted by age, and after many of her employers retired, she returned to the hospital and continued helping her surgeon family in a different way. She began a new role by packing the instruments for surgery at the central sterile processing department. These were just a few of her notable positions with the Hospital, she loved her career so much, she continued working till she was 83.
Ann is survived by her children Nancy, Maria, and Mark (Theresa). As well as her two grandchildren, Connor and Ryan Sawyer. She is also survived by a brother Jimmy Moore and his wife June.
Ann is predeceased by her husband Chuck and his mother Wilhelmina. As well as her brothers Joseph (Marge), John, and Thomas (Anita). Ann is also predeceased by a daughter Cathy.
At the request of the family, there will be no services at this time. Ann and her husband Charles will be buried in the family plot at Park Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
