Ann Ryan

March 4, 1939 — April 10, 2021

Bennington, VT

Ann Louise Ryan, 82, died on Saturday April 10th, 2021 following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington, VT on March 4, 1939, she was raised in a loving home among gardens and apple trees. She was the daughter of the late Wesley and Helen (Hosford) Green.

Ann received her education in North Bennington, and graduated from North Bennington High School. Afterwards, she went on to work for many years at both Bijur then Jard in Bennington.

She married John F. Ryan on June 12th, 1971. This year would have been their 50th anniversary.

As her mother entered her later years, Ann moved her to a home across the street. There she enjoyed Ann's regular company and care.

Every week she enjoyed getting together with her group of friends, the "Thursday Lunch Bunch". At home, she enjoyed relaxing with word puzzles and her cats; many of whom she adopted over the years when she came upon one in need of a loving home.

Ann's baking specialties were especially revered by her family, who would excitedly arrive at Christmas-time to find her freshly made "Santa Snacks" and "Grunch". Many of her descendants directly attribute their love of pie to her.

Survivors include her husband: John F. Ryan of Bennington. Her sister: Nancy Lord of Johnstown, OH. Her children: Amy Sullivan of Cranberry Township, PA, Herbert "Chuck" Knapp & his wife Madeline of Holliston, MA, and Connie Knapp & her wife Bernadette Romano of Fairburn, Georgia. Four grandchildren: Lauren Zelanko & her husband Caleb of Pittsburgh, PA, Amanda Sullivan of Pittsburgh, Wesley Knapp of Los Angeles, CA, and Sara Knapp of Brooklyn, NY. Her niece: Karen Dean of Columbus, OH.

There will be a private graveside service held at the convenience of the family at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
