Anita Gonzalez Bellin

October 18, 1929 — June 7, 2016

Anita Bellin, 86, passed away on June 7, 2016 following a long illness under Hospice care. The family would like to thank River's Edge Community Care, who took such loving care of her in her final days.

She was born on October 18, 1929 in New York, NY to Anna Franke and Pedro Gonzales, textile designers and owners. She graduated from Friends Seminary in New York City and attended Bard College.

She worked in casting for television and theatre before having a family and later had a career in mental health/substance abuse training in civil service.

Anita and Charles raised their family on the New Jersey shore where she was the President of the League of Women Voters, involved in local community mental health and substance abuse programs, the Presbyterian Church, and a founding member of Brookdale Community College.

Anita moved to North Bennington, Vermont in 1985 and became involved in politics, the arts, and local issues. She was a feminist, an advocate for the environment, the homeless, and a voice for the poor.

Anita was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Bennington. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, politics and theatre.

She is survived by her loving family including Pat Dress of Shelburne, VT; Peter and Heather Bellin of San Diego, CA; Derek Bellin and Colleen Wise Bellin of Ipswich, MA; Wendy Donovan Fritz and Bob Fritz of West Hartford, CT; Tim Foley and Nora Parsons, Mary Lee Clark and the many friends from her Church Community.
Anita is also survived by her grandchildren: Emily, age 20; Ian, age 18; Ella, age 16; Grace, age 14, and Sara, age 12.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at The Second Congregational Church 115 Hillside Street, Bennington, VT at 1:00 pm on June 11, 2016.
A light lunch and dessert reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to one of the following The Bennington County Coalition for the Homeless or the Second Congregational Church through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
