Alfred W. Pierce

Alfred W. Pierce, 78, a resident of Blackberry Lane in Bennington, VT and a former resident of Wilder, VT died Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness.

He was born in Bennington, Vermont on November 15, 1937. He was the son of the late Alfred W. Pierce Sr. and Mary Ann (Perrotta) Pierce. Alfred received his education in Burlington and graduated from Cathedral High School.

He married the former Maureen Thibault on October 6, 1963. Mrs. Pierce died in 1993.

Alfred spent most of his career working in the grocery business with a number of companies including P&C foods and Price Chopper from which he retired.

Alfred was an avid sportsman and a good athlete. While in high school he was an accomplished baseball player and was also an excellent skier. He often accompanied the Essex Middle School ski club on outings as a chaperone. He enjoyed playing golf and coaching his son in both youth baseball and football.

Survivors include a son, Derek J. Pierce and his wife Debbi of Manhattan, N.Y., a daughter, Holly Pierce of Boston, MA; two granddaughters, Maggie Rose Pierce and Jessica Pierce of Manhattan. A brother, Robert Pierce (of CT.) and a sister, Nancy Davis.

A memorial Mass will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski, VT on Friday, May 20th at 11am. The burial will follow at Saint Francis Xavier cemetery.
