ALFRED HERBERT KAPTEIN OBITUARY
BENNINGTON, VERMONT
Alfred Herbert Kaptein, 93, a resident of Bennington, Vermont, died on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.
He was born in Clifton, New Jersey, July 29, 1926. He was the son of the late Arie and Clara (Stolk) Kaptein. Alfred received his education in Clifton where he graduated from high school. While stationed in Germany serving with the United States Army he met his future wife, the former Ellen Fischer, and they were married on February 16, 1948 in lower Manhattan, New York.
In 1944, he began working at the Morris Machine Company in Patterson, New Jersey and later moved to Morrison/Berkshire in North Adams, Massachusetts, where he was employed until he retired in 1991.
Alfred enjoyed playing golf and recorded a hole in one at the Mount Anthony Country Club in Bennington. He also enjoyed bowling and in earlier years bowled a 300 game.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Kaptein of Bennington, a daughter Doris Neil, of Murrieta, CA: two sons Roy Kaptein and his wife Mary of Glenwood, New Jersey and Kenneth Kaptein and his wife Cynthia of Williams, Oregon. Seven granddaughters, many great grandchildren and fourteen great great grandchildren. He leaves one sister Doris LaCroix of Phoenix, Arizona along with several nieces, nephews and cousin. Besides his parents he is predeceased by one son-in-law, Robert Neil.
Mr. Kaptein's wish is to be cremated and the family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
