Alec Evan Haag

November 20, 1948 — January 7, 2024

Alec Evan Haag, 75, of Bennington, passed away suddenly on January 7, 2024 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He was born in Philadelphia, PA to G. Harold W. Haag, an architect, and Janina Garstka Haag. Evan grew up in the Borough of Ivyland in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Urban Planning from Dartmouth College in 1970. He went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts from Stanford University in 1975, and later an MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology. His early work was in technical theater and lighting design, but his primary career was in Operations and Supply Chain Management (Purchasing) for manufacturing companies in Rochester and Buffalo, New York and Hartford, Connecticut. He was an active member of the Greece Performing Arts Society Board and the Greece Athena High School Music Boosters while living in Rochester, and served on the Missions Board of what was then known as Westside Baptist Church. Evan was a woodworking craftsman, building everything from small boxes and wooden tools to furniture pieces, many of which are in the homes of those he loved. It gave him great joy to share his pieces, and he will be remembered often through them. He also loved travel, was an avid kayaker, and enjoyed several types of collections over time. His good nature and love of his family and friends were the real hallmarks of his life. Evan is survived by his wife Moira of 54 years, his brothers John Eric and Gary (Charlotte) Haag, his children Kristin (Jeffrey) Pomeroy, Stuart (Anna) Haag, and Stefanie (Timothy) Richthammer, nine grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his older brother, Mark. Funeral services will be held this spring at the convenience of the family. He will be interred in the family lot at Lawnview Cemetery in Rockledge, PA. Donations in his memory may be made to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.
